KL Rahul’s exclusion from the 3rd Test due to injury prompted questions over his social media posts showcasing practice sessions.
KL Rahul faced criticism from a BCCI source for sharing practice session videos on social media while recovering from a quadriceps strain, sparking debate over his absence from the third Test against England.
Despite being declared as a “90% match fit” by the board, Rahul’s exclusion raised eyebrows, especially since he posted a batting clip before the official announcement.
“KL Rahul, whose availability for the remaining three Tests was subject to fitness, has been ruled out of the third Test against England in Rajkot. Mr. Rahul has reached 90 percent of match fitness and is progressing well under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team,” the BCCI said in a statement.
A senior BCCI official questioned KL Rahul’s inclusion in the provisional squad despite the medical team’s awareness of his serious quadriceps injury that sidelined him from the 2nd Test in Vizag. The official also criticized his social media posts showcasing batting videos during his injury period.
“KL Rahul hasn’t yet reported in Rajkot. Ravindra Jadeja, the local boy has linked up with the team. It was always a case of subject to fitness and the BCCI medical team is still not confident that he is match fit. If the BCCI’s medical team knew in first place that Rahul’s quad injury is as serious as it looks, why in the first place was he kept in provisional squad? And why is the player sending wrong signals by posting videos of his batting on Instagram stories?,” a senior BCCI source was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The wicketkeeper-batter will continue to undergo rehabilitation at Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy, aiming for a return in future Tests. Meanwhile, Devdutt Padikkal has been named as the temporary replacement in the squad.
