Former India captain Kris Srikkanth wants 14-year-old IPL sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi included in India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad.
Former India opener and ex-chief selector Kris Srikkanth has created a buzz by backing 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the Asia Cup 2025. He argued that age should not block exceptional talent, especially when his current form is extraordinary.
“You have to play boldly. Don’t make him wait. Don’t say things like let him mature. He is already playing with remarkable maturity. His shot-making has been on another level. If I were chairman, I would have him in the 15,” Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.
The selectors face tough choices, with Shreyas Iyer, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma, and Riyan Parag among the contenders. Suryavanshi, however, has already made a mark. He smashed a 35-ball century, the fastest by an Indian in IPL history, against Gujarat Titans. He then excelled on the India U-19 tour of England, scoring 355 runs in five matches, including 143 in the fourth ODI.

Kris Srikkanth then shared his views on India’s batting order, expressing doubts over Sanju Samson’s chances. He placed strong backing behind Abhishek Sharma as the first-choice opener.
“Samson is doubtful, according to me. My first-choice opener is Abhishek Sharma, no doubt. I will have two more openers. My picks would be Vaibhav Suryavanshi or Sai Sudharsan, with Shubman Gill as an option. He has been outstanding. I think it should be Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Sai Sudharsan. I would take two out of these three. That would be my preference,” Srikkanth added.
The Ajit Agarkar-led panel will meet on August 19 in Mumbai to finalize the T20 squad for the UAE tournament, scheduled from September 9 to 28. India open their campaign on September 10.
