KS Bharat, gearing up for his inaugural Test match at home, acknowledged the anticipated noise and distractions but underscored the importance of staying present.
As India gears up for the second Test against England in Vishakapatnam, the spotlight shines on local hero Srikar Bharat, set to become only the second cricketer from Andhra Pradesh to play Test cricket at his home ground. Following his inclusion in the side for the first Test, the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) has planned a special felicitation for Bharat.
The streets leading to the Dr. YS Rajashekharareddy ACA VDCA stadium are adorned with posters celebrating the homecoming. Despite the emotional anticipation, Bharat remains focused on the game, emphasizing the importance of being present for the larger Test match ahead.
“There will be a lot of noise when you are playing for your country. There will be good noises, bad noises, but the thing is you will have to be in the present moment. For me which is a pride moment playing in front of your home crowd, but if you look at the bigger picture, there is a test game which is supposed to be played and my whole focus and our whole focus is definitely on that,” said Bharat during the pre-match press conference.
“After the game, the atmosphere is absolutely relaxed. [Seniors] They told us not to panic, which we are not. As we as individuals have to focus on the good things and things which we want to do well and do it in the coming Test games,” he added.
As England faces the absence of lead spinner Jack Leach due to a knee injury, India grapples with their own challenges. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja’s unavailability, coupled with Kohli’s absence, leaves India with a relatively inexperienced batting lineup for the upcoming test.
Despite missing senior players, Bharat acknowledged the bench strength’s readiness for challenges, highlighting the wealth of experience gained through domestic and overall cricket. Confident in the capabilities of the replacements, Bharat believes the younger players are well-prepared to step in and contribute positively to the team’s performance.
