Kuldeep Yadav’s defensive gameplay with the bat as well as his aggressive spell with the bowl impressed Ravichandran Ashwin, as Yadav paved the way for India’s comeback.
On Day 3, things looked tough for India as they slumped to a precarious 177/7 in response to England’s impressive innings of 353. With the middle order collapsing, Kuldeep Yadav came in to save the day with both batting and bowling prowess, turning many heads, including Ravichandran Ashwin’s.
Partnering with Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep bowled England out for 145, reducing the lengthy target that England might have set for India to chase on a deteriorating pitch.
After Ashwin’s five-wicket haul, he expressed his appreciation for Kuldeep, stating, “I thought Kuldeep bowled brilliantly. What I loved about Kuldeep today was the way he worked on his run-up, momentum and all that sort of stuff. We all know how much revs he can put on the ball, what skill he has got. The change of pace that changes the trajectory, which he is willing to do now. I think he’s now double the bowler that he is. Really happy for him.” He even commented chirpily on Kuldeep’s four-wicket haul, telling JioCinema, “I just stole the fifer away from him. That’s how the game goes.”
Even with the bat, after the middle order collapsed during India’s first innings, Kuldeep stepped up to the challenge and displayed his grit with a rock-solid knock of 28 runs off 131 deliveries while holding the wickets.
Jurel, who had already impressed on his debut, also scored an impressive 90. Overall, the Indian dressing room was impressed as Kuldeep’s all-round magic with both bat and ball had kept India out of trouble and put them in a better position in the match.
