AB De Villiers expressed his belief that Rajat Patidar should be given another chance, despite reports suggesting the batter would be dropped from the squad for the final Test against England.
Rajat Patidar’s debutant performance in the ongoing series against England failed to make a mark. In three matches so far, the right-handed batsman has made just 63 runs at an average of 10.5. This led to speculation that he might be dropped for the final Test. Although the odds are against him, AB de Villiers, the former South African star cricketer backed him to get better.
“Rajat Patidar not having the series of a lifetime or one to remember. But the good thing about this Indian team and the culture is that you will survive in that side because of the great cricket they are playing and the results coming their way,” de Villiers shared on his YouTube channel.
De Villiers also acknowledged India’s positive team culture which might boost Patidar’s spirit despite his rough patch.
“If his attitude is catchy and if he is a likable character in the dressing room, Rohit and the selection panel will have the ability to say, Hold on, we do believe this guy has a future and we see him as a part of the team moving forward. Even though he hasn’t been scoring runs, let’s give him a longer run” the former South African skipper stated.
Reportedly, KL Rahul has also been excluded from the fifth test at Dharamsala by BCCI. He has been sent to the United Kingdom for a better checkup of his injury. Subsequently, Devdutt Padikkal will get his test debutant cap if Patidar fails to join the squad.
