England all-rounder Liam Livingstone praised the return of fast bowlers Jofra Archer and Mark Wood, believing their pace gives England a significant advantage.
England all-rounder Liam Livingstone believes that the return of fast bowlers Jofra Archer and Mark Wood gave his team a significant advantage as they prepare to defend their T20 World Cup title in Barbados next week.
Archer and Wood, both known for their pace, played a key role in England’s recent 2-0 T20I series win over Pakistan. Archer dismissed the in-form Pakistan captain Babar Azam, triggering a batting collapse, while Wood’s fiery bouncers accounted for Azam Khan and Naseem Shah.
“A 2-0 victory going into the World Cup is great. What was even better was having Jof and Woody back. They give us that extra edge that we haven’t had before, which is pretty cool,” Livingstone said after the series win, which was shortened due to rainouts.
Both Archer and Wood have battled injuries throughout their careers, but Livingstone emphasised the psychological boost their presence brings. “Any team that has them feels like they’re one step ahead even before the game starts,” he said.
Livingstone acknowledges that pace bowling can be a double-edged sword, but he believes the duo, along with Chris Jordan’s excellent form, gives England a potent weapon.
This renewed confidence comes after England’s disappointing 50-over World Cup title defense in India last year. However, the team management has retained faith in captain Jos Buttler and coach Matthew Mott, who guided them to T20 World Cup glory in Australia in 2022.

Livingstone highlighted the team’s improved state compared to six months ago. “We’re in a much better place, which is exciting for all of us,” he said.
On a personal note, Livingstone finally seemed pain-free after battling a long-standing knee injury. “It’s not been fun trying to play with a niggle for the past year and a half. It takes a toll on your spirit and enjoyment of the game,” he concluded.
Hence, with a healthy Livingstone and the return of their pace bowling attack, England appears well-positioned to defend their T20 World Cup title.
