LSG’s pace bowler Shivam Mavi’s IPL 2024 campaign failed to start as he would not be able to join the team because of his injuries.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Shivam Mavi has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2024 season due to injury. The news was confirmed by both Mavi and the team in a video released on LSG’s social media handle on April 3rd.
Mavi, who was acquired by LSG during the IPL 2024 auction for a hefty sum of 6.4 crore rupees, unfortunately, has not played a single game this season. This setback comes as a big blow for the young pacer, who was hoping to return to the IPL after a two-year absence.
In the video message, Mavi revealed that he had been carrying an injury even before joining the LSG camp. Despite the injury, he remained hopeful of contributing to the team’s performance.
“I will miss it a lot. I came here after an injury and thought I would get to play matches for the team. But unfortunately, I will have to go because I have an injury.” Mavi said, as quoted by India Today.
Further, the fast bowler also acknowledged the mental challenges that come with injuries for athletes. “A cricketer has to be mentally strong for this. If you have an injury like this, how do you come back and take care of it? We have a very good team here,” he added.
This is the third player LSG has lost for the IPL 2024 season due to various reasons. Earlier, England pacer Mark Wood pulled out due to workload management, and the team brought in Shamar Joseph as his replacement. More recently, LSG also lost David Willey, with Matt Henry joining the squad as the English all-rounder’s replacement.
Mavi’s absence is a significant setback for LSG, who were hoping to utilise his pace attack skills throughout the tournament. However, LSG has not yet released any official statement regarding Mavi’s replacement.
