Manoj Tiwary suggested that Rohit Sharma might regain the captaincy for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, following the team’s three consecutive losses under Hardik Pandya’s leadership.
Mumbai Indians (MI) have stumbled out of the gates in IPL 2024, suffering defeats in their first three matches. MI kicked off their campaign with a narrow loss to Gujarat Titans, followed by comprehensive defeats against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals.
Before the season started, the franchise made a significant change in leadership, appointing Hardik Pandya as captain, replacing the legendary Rohit Sharma, who led the team to five IPL titles. However, Pandya’s captaincy faced criticism, particularly after a hostile reception from fans during Mumbai’s home fixture against Rajasthan.

Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary observed Pandya’s visible pressure under the crowd’s hostility and suggested that MI might reconsider Rohit as captain.
“It’s a clue that Hardik is under pressure. If he is not bowling having bowled in the first 2 games, and in conditions where there was swing on offer in both first and second innings, I think he felt the pressure with the kind of reception he received. I want to say something big. I have this feeling that during this break, Rohit Sharma could be given back the captaincy from Hardik Pandya,” Tiwary remarked on Cricbuzz, implying a potential change in leadership.
“It can happen. It’s a big call because whatever little I understand these franchises and owners, they don’t hesitate in taking calls. They had started it when they took the captaincy from Rohit and gave it to Hardik. Now it’s pretty big when you change a captain who has won you five titles. And now that they haven’t won a single game and the captaincy also looks jaded. Mistakes are happening,” he added.
Mumbai’s upcoming fixture sees them facing Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 07.
