Matheesha Pathirana expressed optimism about Sri Lanka’s chances against India and emphasised his desire to become a complete bowler.
Sri Lankan pace sensation Matheesha Pathirana has marked the upcoming series against India as a pivotal moment for his team’s comeback. The 22-year-old, who has rapidly climbed the ranks of world cricket, believes a successful campaign against the reigning T20 World Champions could be the catalyst for a sustained period of success for Sri Lanka.
“I think it will be a good challenge. India is coming with a new coach and some new players; their combination will be slightly different. But it will be a good challenge for us because they are world champions. We have a very good side and a lot of talent and potential. Unfortunately, we didn’t do well in the T20 World Cup. But if we can win this series, it will be a confidence booster for the next three years,” Pathirana told Sportstar.
The left-arm pacer, Matheesha Pathirana, renowned for his unorthodox bowling action, has been a revelation since his IPL debut with the Chennai Super Kings. Sharing the dressing room with MS Dhoni has been an invaluable experience, he says. “Playing for CSK is like a dream come true. To learn from a legend like Mahi Bhai has been a great boost to my growth,” said Pathirana.

Despite his rapid rise and reputation as a death-over specialist, Matheesha Pathirana remains grounded. “While I’m happy with my death bowling, I aspire to be a complete bowler. Mastering the new ball and middle overs will make me a more effective asset to my team,” added the pacer.
With three ICC tournaments on the horizon, Pathirana is optimistic about Sri Lanka’s prospects. “We have the talent to compete at the highest level. The team is united and determined to achieve great things,” Pathirana concluded in an optimistic tone.
