Despite earlier rumors suggesting a possible move to another franchise, reports from Sports Tak confirm that Suryakumar Yadav will stay with the Mumbai Indians for IPL 2025.
The Mumbai Indians (MI) had a disappointing IPL 2024, ending at the bottom of the table with just four wins from 14 matches. The team’s struggles were compounded by Hardik Pandya’s challenging tenure as captain, which followed his transfer from the Gujarat Titans and the abrupt shift of leadership from Rohit Sharma. Pandya faced heavy criticism from fans and his performance declined during the season.
Reports suggested Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav might consider moving to a different franchise due to dissatisfaction with the management’s decision. However, a source close to the Mumbai Indians dismissed these rumors as mere social media speculation.
“No, he (SKY) won’t leave. Just people speculating on social media in order to get engagement,” Sports Tak quoted an MI source as saying.
Rumors also suggested that Kolkata Knight Riders, Suryakumar Yadav’s previous franchise from 2014 to 2017, are interested in bringing him back as their leader.
Meanwhile, SKY will miss the opening round of the Duleep Trophy 2024 due to a hand injury sustained during the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Coimbatore. He is presently resting and undergoing assessment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He was named in the India C squad, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will face Shreyas Iyer’s India D in their opening game in Anantapur.
