Michael Bracewell was named captain of New Zealand’s T20I squad for their upcoming tour of Pakistan, beginning on April 18th.
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has announced their T20I squad for the upcoming tour of Pakistan, with all-rounder Michael Bracewell named as captain. The captaincy role marks Bracewell’s return to international cricket after recovering from injuries and his first time leading the national team.
Bracewell’s selection as captain came after a lengthy absence due to injuries. He ruptured his Achilles tendon while playing for Worcestershire in the T20 Blast last year and later suffered a broken finger. However, his recent impressive performance in domestic cricket, including a career-best bowling figure of 8 for 41 in the Plunket Shield, has convinced the selectors.
“Michael has faced a long period on the sidelines, and it’s exciting to see him back playing cricket again. The fact he’s back playing at a high level after an Achilles rupture is testament to his hard work and application,” selector Sam Wells said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Wells also highlighted Bracewell’s leadership experience, stating, “He’s a well-respected leader and has captaincy experience for Wellington along with New Zealand A and New Zealand XI teams, which we believe holds him in good stead to lead the group in Pakistan.”

The squad that Bracewell will lead features a mix of experienced players and exciting young talents. Notably, uncapped batter Tim Robinson has received his maiden call-up, while fast bowler Will O’Rourke, who debuted earlier this season in Tests and ODIs, is also included.
The T20I series against Pakistan holds significant importance as New Zealand finalises their squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The New Zealand Cricket Team will visit Pakistan for the five-match T20I series that will begin on April 18th and end on April 27th.
