Michael Vaughan predicts Pat Cummins will become Australia’s second-greatest cricketer after Sir Don Bradman, citing his exceptional bowling, leadership, and projected years left to play.
In a recent interview on Fox Cricket, Michael Vaughan praised Pat Cummins, heralding him as a potential future great in Australian cricket, behind only Sir Don Bradman. In 2024, Cummins began with a stellar performance, securing a sensational five-wicket haul in Sydney against Pakistan, and showcasing remarkable consistency throughout the series.
Vaughan emphasized Cummins’ consistent prowess in Test cricket and hailed his captaincy, highlighting Australia’s winning run across all formats under his leadership. The former skipper clarified that Cummins might not surpass Bradman but predicted him to stand as the greatest Australian cricketer post-Bradman, considering his impressive bowling, leadership skills, and the substantial years ahead in his career.
“I saw a bit of DK Lillee (Dennis Lillie), but I think Pat Cummins. I do not think he is ever going to surpass Sir Don, but I think Pat Cummins is going to be Australia’s greatest cricketer after Sir Don. I honestly think he is that good. His bowling. His captaincy. His numbers. He has five to seven years left to play,” Vaughan said.
“I honestly think he is that good that we will be talking about him in a few years as being just behind Sir Don Bradman as the greatest Australian cricketer,” he added.
Bradman, renowned for his 99.94 Test batting average, holds the highest among players with over two innings. Presently, Cummins boasts 257 wickets at 22.13. Among bowlers with 250 wickets, just six have superior averages, with only Glenn McGrath (21.64) among Australians.
Led by Cummins, Australia holds a 2-0 lead in the ongoing series against Pakistan and aims for a whitewash by winning the third Test.
