Michael Vaughan predicts that after IPL 2024, Rohit Sharma could potentially join Chennai Super Kings, possibly replacing Ruturaj as captain, considering his success with Mumbai Indians.
Amidst the shuffle of captaincy within Mumbai Indians, including Hardik Pandya taking the reins from the returning Hardik Pandya, rumors swirl around Rohit Sharma possibly switching teams. Many speculate Chennai Super Kings as a prime destination, especially with the assumption that this IPL season might mark MS Dhoni’s farewell.

Michael Vaughan, on the BeerBiceps podcast, hinted at this possibility, suggesting that Ruturaj Gaikwad’s leadership stint could merely be temporary. With Dhoni’s potential exit, Vaughan sees Rohit Sharma as a strong contender to step in next season.
“Will he (Rohit Sharma) go to Chennai? Replace Dhoni? Gaikwad is doing it (the captaincy) this year, and it might be just (an act of) holding position for Rohit next year. I see him in Chennai,” Vaughan said.
Ranveer Allahbadia, the podcast host, expressed his dismay at the prospect of Rohit Sharma leaving Mumbai Indians, suggesting it would be heartbreaking for fans. He proposed a sentimental alternative, endorsing Rohit’s potential move to Sunrisers Hyderabad, citing his previous stint with Deccan Chargers.
Vaughan also criticized Mumbai Indians’ management for poor communication, suggesting Rohit Sharma should have retained captaincy even after Hardik Pandya’s return. He advocated for Rohit to continue as captain, with a transitional plan involving Hardik for the future, deeming it a logical approach.
