Michael Vaughan Tips IPL To Be Played In England
The BCCI suspended IPL 2025 for a week following rising cross-border tensions with Pakistan and Michael Vaughan offered an unique solution to it.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for one week amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision, taken on Friday, followed rising security concerns expressed by multiple franchises and foreign players.
According to IPL sources, no final call has been made on the tournament’s future. A key meeting is expected within a week to discuss possible new venues and an updated schedule.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan suggested that the tournament could be completed in the United Kingdom. He posted on X (formerly Twitter), “I wonder if it’s possible to finish the IPL in the UK .. We have all the venues and the Indian players can then stay on for the Test series .. Just a thought ?”
The situation worsened on Thursday night after airstrikes and drone activity from across the border led to power blackouts in Jammu, Udhampur, and Pathankot. The match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala had to be called off after just 10.1 overs into the first innings.
With airports in Dharamshala and other northern cities shut, players and staff from both teams, as well as match officials, commentators, and broadcasting crews, were moved to Jalandhar by bus on Friday morning. From there, they boarded a special train arranged by the IPL to reach New Delhi.

The IPL Governing Council, led by BCCI CEO Hemang Amin, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal, and Secretary Jay Shah’s advisor Shreevats Goswami, made the decision in consultation with all stakeholders. Most franchises conveyed serious concerns from their players and support staff, along with inputs from broadcasters, sponsors, and fans.
In a formal statement, the BCCI said, “While the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the Board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders. At this critical juncture, the BCCI stands firmly with the nation. We express our solidarity with the Government of India, the Armed Forces and the people of our country.” As the BCCI monitors the situation closely, further updates on IPL 2025’s resumption are expected soon.
