Australian coach Andrew McDonald revealed captain Mitchell Marsh is unlikely to bowl before the Super 8s due to a hamstring injury.
Australian coach Andrew McDonald has addressed concerns regarding captain Mitchell Marsh’s ability to bowl in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Marsh, who suffered a hamstring injury earlier, is unlikely to be risked with bowling duties in the upcoming matches against Namibia and potentially Scotland.
“We’re certainly hopeful that he’ll be back to bowling soon. However, the likelihood of that happening against Namibia is very slim, and it might even stretch to Scotland. But assuming we qualify for the Super 8 stage, we’re confident about Mitchell bowling at full throttle from that round onwards,” McDonald said at a press conference before their clash against Namibia, as quoted by Sportskeeda.
McDonald’s comments come as a slight setback for Australia, considering Marsh’s all-round capabilities. The skipper was forced to return early from the IPL 2024 season to address the hamstring issue and has been undergoing rehabilitation since.
On a more positive note, McDonald expressed delight with Australia’s dominant performance against England in their opening match. “The way the boys played against England is exactly the brand of cricket we want to see. There’s a clear commitment to this style, and even if we face challenges playing this way, we’re comfortable with that approach. This win against a strong England side is a huge confidence booster, and we’ll be prepared to adapt our strategies as the tournament progresses,” McDonald asserted.

Australia’s qualification for the Super 8 stage hinges on securing a victory against Namibia. Meanwhile, Scotland has emerged as a surprise contender in their group, currently sitting undefeated with three wins from three matches. England’s qualification hopes rest on winning their remaining matches and hoping for a favourable outcome in the Australia vs. Scotland encounter.
