Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Rishabh Pant for his T20 World Cup performance and remarkable recovery from a car accident.
Following their triumphant return from the T20 World Cup, the Indian cricket team, including wicket-keeper-batter Rishabh Pant, met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday. During a heartwarming interaction, the Prime Minister commended Pant’s exceptional performance throughout the tournament.
Highlighting Pant’s remarkable recovery from a near-fatal car accident in December 2022, PM Modi hailed him as “a big inspiration to all.” He acknowledged speaking to Pant’s mother during that difficult time and inquiring about the extent of his injuries and potential need for overseas treatment. “When I talked to your mother, she was really confident of your recovery. That time I knew that a person who is blessed with such a mother will definitely achieve something big. And you truly showed us that you won the war,” commended Modi.

Pant, reflecting on his recovery journey, shared, “…1.5 years ago, I was going through a very difficult phase. I remember that you called my mother and said everything would be fine, it was then I became a little calm mentally. After that, during recovery, I used to hear from people whether I would ever be able to play cricket or not, so for the last 1.5 years, I was thinking that I should come back to the field and do better than what I was doing.”
For the unaware, in December 2022, fans and family were left shaken after Pant miraculously survived a horrific car crash while driving home to surprise his mother. The accident, caused by him losing control of the vehicle while dozing off, resulted in severe injuries and a fire. Doctors initially predicted a recovery timeline of 2-3 years, but Pant’s unwavering determination and passion for the game saw him return to the field in just 14 months and then win the World Cup.
