Former Indian cricketers Mohammad Kaif and Irfan Pathan discussed the upcoming IPL 2024 season on Star Sports, highlighting the season opener between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Kaif praised Dhoni’s transformative coaching, citing players like Tushar Deshpande and Ajinkya Rahane who flourished under his guidance. He expressed wonder at how players’ performances skyrocket upon joining CSK, attributing it to Dhoni’s special mentoring that instills fitness and alertness.
“Whoever joins the team, their performances automatically improve. You can talk about Tushar Deshpande and the cameos of Ajinkya Rahane, especially in the final. I can say that these are players who have not got a great record in the IPL but when they go to Dhoni and Chennai, I wonder what happens to them, what special guidance they get that everyone starts playing well. Dhoni has this special medicine that makes the players fit, alert, and play well for the team,” said Kaif.
Irfan Pathan also pointed out the hurdles Dhoni may confront in IPL 2024, citing Deepak Chahar’s injury return, Pathirana’s inconsistent form, and Conway’s recent injury. Despite these setbacks, Pathan trusted Dhoni’s strategic tactics to navigate challenges, highlighting his consistent ability to adapt and lead CSK effectively each season.
The opening match between CSK and RCB in IPL 2024 is scheduled to kick off on March 22.
