Mohammed Shami said he isn’t upset about missing the Asia Cup 2025 squad, trusting the selectors to do what’s best for India.
Mohammed Shami addressed his exclusion from India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad, stressing that he holds no complaints against the selectors. Shami last featured competitively during IPL 2025. At 34, he confirmed that he was fully fit and available for selection, having recently cleared the Bronco Test in Bengaluru.
“I don’t blame anyone for non-selection or complain about it. If I’m right for the team, select me; if I’m not, then I have no issues with it. Selectors have the responsibility to do what’s best for Team India. I have a belief in my abilities that if and when I’m granted an opportunity, I’ll give my best. I’m working hard,” stated Shami, as quoted by News24 Sports.
Shami then emphasized that decisions rest with selectors, while his focus remains on preparation and performance.
“If they are managed properly, they can play for a longer time. For India, it’s important that all fast bowlers stay fit, because in big events like the Asia Cup or World Cup, if they are available, India’s chances of winning will be higher,” he added.

According to earlier reports, the BCCI remained cautious about his ability to manage long-format demands despite his experience. Questions over fitness and workload management played a role in the decision, leaving Shami sidelined from the overseas tour.
