Mohammed Shami is reportedly set to return to the Indian team for the five-match T20I series against England, beginning on January 22 in Kolkata. The pacer, who last played in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia, has been sidelined for over a year due to an ankle injury.
Despite a tough recovery journey, Shami showcased his fitness through strong performances in domestic tournaments like the Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali, and Vijay Hazare Trophy. He was initially expected to join India’s tour to Australia, but a knee issue delayed his comeback.
“Fast bowler Mohammed Shami will make a comeback in India colours during the five-match T20 matches against England that begins on January 22 in Kolkata,” the report from Indian Express read.
Along with Shami, Dhruv Jurel and Nitish Kumar Reddy are also expected to be selected. Jurel, a second-choice wicketkeeper-batter, could make his T20I return, while Reddy, after a successful Australia tour with 298 runs, will likely feature as well. However, Riyan Parag will miss the series due to injury. Additionally, Yashasvi Jaiswal, tipped to make his T20I return, is expected to open with Sanju Samson.
