Mohammed Siraj won the ‘Best Fielder’ medal for an excellent run out as India started their T20 World Cup campaign by defeating Ireland by eight wickets at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
Mohammed Siraj won the ‘Best Fielder’ medal for an outstanding run out in India’s T20 World Cup opener against Ireland. Although Siraj didn’t need to bowl his full four overs, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah dominated Ireland’s batting, with Pandya taking three wickets and Bumrah two. India cruised to an eight-wicket victory at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 5.
India’s fielding coach, T Dilip announced the nominees, including Rishabh Pant and Siraj. A young fan from the US named Subhek presented the medal to Siraj and later interacted with players, even taking pictures with Arshdeep Singh.

On the match front, Ireland were bowled out for just 96 runs in 16 overs. Opting to bowl first, India’s bowlers excelled, with Hardik Pandya taking three wickets, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh grabbing two each, and Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj each taking one. Ireland’s batting crumbled under the pressure, with only Gareth Delany managing a notable 26 runs.

Chasing 97, India’s innings started strong with Captain Rohit Sharma scoring 52 before retiring hurt. Despite a brief slump with Virat Kohli dismissed for one and Suryakumar Yadav falling to Ben White, Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten knock ensured a smooth finish. India comfortably reached the target with 7.4 overs to spare.
