According to recent reports, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi is set to become the next Asian Cricket Council President after Jay Shah’s tenure.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairperson Mohsin Naqvi is likely to become the next Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President, succeeding Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah. According to a PTI report, Naqvi’s potential appointment is in line with the ACC’s rotational system. Shah has served as ACC President for three consecutive years, including a one-year extension earlier this January.
A source informed PTI that a recent ACC meeting discussed the proposal to name Naqvi as the new president under the rotational policy. If confirmed, Naqvi will oversee major upcoming tournaments such as the 2025 Asia Cup, which will be played as a T20I tournament in India, and the ODI edition in Bangladesh in 2027. This role will add to Naqvi’s existing responsibilities, including managing the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy set to be hosted in Pakistan.
“When the ACC meets later this year, it will confirm that Naqvi will be the next president for a two-year term. When (Jay) Shah steps down, the PCB chief will take over,” the source told PTI.

Meanwhile, India and Pakistan, have faced tensions over participation in each other’s countries for major cricket events. Pakistan has raised concerns about travelling to India for the upcoming Champions Trophy. Conversely, Pakistan travelled to India for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. However, despite numerous meetings between BCCI President Roger Binny and Naqvi, clarity on India’s participation in the Champions Trophy remains yet to be decided.
