India were yet to receive the Asia Cup 2025 trophy as a dispute between BCCI and ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi intensified following the final in Dubai.
The Asia Cup 2025 concluded nearly a month ago, but the victorious Indian team is yet to receive the championship trophy. India defeated Pakistan in the final on September 28 in Dubai, yet the silverware has not been officially handed over. New twists continue to emerge over the trophy’s whereabouts.
According to recent reports, the trophy was removed from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) office and locked in an abandoned location in Abu Dhabi by ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The revelation has sparked a major controversy, casting uncertainty over when the trophy will be presented to the Indian team.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is said to be in regular contact with the ACC, working to recover the trophy and ensure it is formally handed to the Indian side.
The controversy began during the post-match presentation in Dubai, when the Indian players reportedly declined to accept the trophy directly from ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The team’s refusal stemmed from Naqvi’s position as Pakistan’s Interior Minister, which the Indian contingent deemed inappropriate for an ACC event. Following the incident, Naqvi allegedly took possession of the trophy and secured it in his Dubai office.

BCCI rejects Naqvi’s demand
Efforts to settle the issue have been further delayed due to Naqvi’s reported conditions. He has demanded a formal ceremony where India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav would personally receive the trophy from him. The BCCI has rejected this proposal, insisting that the trophy and medals should be sent directly to the ACC headquarters for a neutral and official handover.
The matter escalated when Naqvi allegedly complained to ICC members, claiming he was humiliated during the Asia Cup presentation after Indian players refused to approach him. In response, the BCCI has cautioned Naqvi against filing official complaints or politicising the incident further.
Despite the off-field tensions, India’s performance in the tournament remains noteworthy. The Men in Blue dominated the Asia Cup 2025, remaining unbeaten throughout and defeating Pakistan three times, including in the final to lift the title in Dubai.
