PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has promised significant changes to improve Pakistan cricket, stating that despite recent failures, major reforms are underway and things will not stay the same.
Following Pakistan’s shocking 10-wicket defeat to Bangladesh in the first Test at Rawalpindi, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has acknowledged the need for a major overhaul in Pakistan cricket. This defeat marked the first time Bangladesh has beaten Pakistan in 14 Test matches, extending Pakistan’s dismal run in Test cricket to five losses and four draws at home since their last win in 2021.
The national team has also struggled in limited-overs formats, being eliminated from the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup. Mohsin Naqvi has promised significant changes, stating that a major restructuring is necessary.
“I will fix the issues in Pakistan cricket, God willing. And changes are on the way. Remember my words that things will not remain the same and a lot is happening in the background,” Naqvi said while talking to the media without indulging in more details.
Earlier, Former cricketers, including Shahid Afridi and Muhammad Hafeez, criticized the team’s performance and questioned the PCB’s leadership. Hafeez specifically pointed out Naqvi’s previous comments about needing a “major surgery” for Pakistan cricket’s issues.
“Initially, I believed a minor surgery would suffice, but after this poor performance, it’s clear that a major overhaul is needed. The nation will soon witness substantial changes,” Naqvi had said earlier.
However, despite the PCB chairman’s promises of significant changes, the national team remains unchanged, with senior players such as Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi failing to make an impact in recent matches. Pakistan’s loss to Bangladesh, their fourth consecutive Test defeat, has highlighted the team’s struggles.
