Manoj Tiwary Unsure of MS Dhoni’s Decision

Former cricketer Manoj Tiwary said it was difficult to know if MS Dhoni would accept the mentor role for Asia Cup 2025.

There have been strong talks that legendary India captain MS Dhoni has been offered the role of mentor for the national side in the upcoming Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025. The tournament begins on September 9, where the Suryakumar Yadav-led team will aim to defend their title. However, there is no official confirmation yet on whether Dhoni has accepted the offer reportedly made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Meanwhile, former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary shared his thoughts on the matter, saying it is not easy to predict Dhoni’s response. Tiwary pointed out that the wicketkeeper-batter is difficult to reach and rarely replies to calls or messages.

“Only time will tell (if Dhoni accepts the role). He has been offered the mentor’s role, but has he picked up the phone? Because as far as I know, it is really difficult to get in touch with him on phone. He rarely responds even to the messages. A lot of players have confirmed this. We do not know what his reply would be if he sees the text message. If he does accept, then his experience as a captain and player will be very useful, as the new players emerging today and becoming stars of the Indian team give him a lot of respect. The pairing of MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir will also be worth watching,” Tiwary was quoted as saying by Navbharat Times.

Dhoni, who last played for India in 2019, has previously served as the team’s mentor during the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Under then skipper Virat Kohli, India failed to qualify for the knockout stages despite having a star-studded line-up.

With Dhoni reportedly being considered once again for the mentor role, cricket fans and experts are eager to see how his presence alongside head coach Gautam Gambhir could shape India’s campaign in the Asia Cup.
