As per reports, MS Dhoni has not decided on retirement yet, requesting a few months from CSK before making a final call.
The Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) IPL 2024 campaign came to an end after a narrow loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Saturday. Both teams finished with 14 points, but RCB secured the final playoff spot due to a superior net run rate.
This defeat has sparked questions about the future of veteran cricketer MS Dhoni, who captained CSK prior to the 2024 season. While fans are concerned they may have witnessed Dhoni’s last IPL match, a CSK official clarified to Times of India that he has not made any official retirement announcement.
Dhoni reportedly returned to Ranchi on Sunday, the first CSK player to depart after the loss. The source also revealed that Dhoni is “devastated” by the outcome.

Regarding his future, a source close to Dhoni told that he has not informed the franchise about his plans. He has reportedly requested a few months to make a final decision. “Dhoni has not told anybody in CSK that he is quitting. He has told the management that he will wait for a couple of months before taking a final call. He did not feel any discomfort in his running between the wickets and that is a plus,” said the source.
Shedding a ray of hope, the official hinted at Dhoni’s delayed retirement. “We will wait for Dhoni’s communication. He always prioritizes the team’s best interests, so we’ll see what unfolds,” concluded the CSK official.
