Adam Gilchrist Questions MS Dhoni

Former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist questioned MS Dhoni’s bowling choices and energy after CSK’s two-run defeat to RCB.
Former Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist raised questions about MS Dhoni’s captaincy and fitness after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered a close two-run loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, May 3.
Chennai failed to chase down 214, finishing at 211 for five. With this win, RCB scripted a historic double over CSK in a single IPL season for the first time.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Gilchrist expressed surprise over Dhoni’s decision to bring back Khaleel Ahmed for the 19th over, despite the left-arm pacer conceding 32 runs in his first two overs. Romario Shepherd hammered 33 runs in that over, which included a six off a no-ball.
“Tactically, I don’t know if a huge difference could have been made. Given going back to Khaleel was risky at the back end because he had gone for somewhat 32 runs in the first two overs,” Gilchrist said.

“Maybe he could have gone to Kamboj. Given where Noor finished, Jadeja with an extra over of spin is what he could have gone with. It’s such a mixed bag. They also bowled 45 dot balls,” he added. Gilchrist also spoke about Dhoni’s calm demeanour and raised concerns about whether the veteran still has the same energy to lead CSK effectively.
“MS… he is never animated or shows any visible signs that he is upset. I just wonder if the energy is still being generated for him internally. Whether the brain is still ticking for him as astutely as it always has, as he edges closer and closer to the end,” Gilchrist remarked.
The former wicketkeeper-batter further pointed to Dhoni’s missed opportunity with the bat in the final over, when he failed to put away a full toss from Yash Dayal, who dismissed him. “Even MS, just a sign of where he is at. Just to miss that one… effectively it was a full toss. He never used to miss those… used to just pick them up,” Gilchrist said.
