Shane Watson shared his thoughts regarding former CSK skipper MS Dhoni’s formidable form and his chances of moving up the batting order.
Former Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Shane Watson has called for the team to consider promoting MS Dhoni to a higher position in the batting order. Watson made these comments in light of Dhoni’s impressive late-inning knock during Chennai’s previous loss to the Delhi Capitals (DC).
Watson shared his belief that the Kings should learn from this missed opportunity and utilise Dhoni’s batting skills more effectively in upcoming matches. “CSK will be learning from the little things that went wrong against Delhi in their last game and making the most of the things that went incredibly well. One thing was Dhoni, the way he batted, coming in late in the game, which will mean that hopefully he’ll move up the order when an opportunity presents itself, because he batted as well as I’ve seen him for a long time,” Shane Watson told JioCinema, as quoted by India Today.
“The lessons that CSK learned—that’s the reason why they’ve been so successful for so long—because they’ll find out the little elements they need to get better, they need to execute better, and where they went wrong, they’ll learn from that. So they’ll be ready to go against Hyderabad,” Watson added.
Though Watson was optimistic about Dhoni’s promotion in the batting order, veteran cricketers like Ambati Rayudu and Michael Clarke shared no hope at all, as they were firm in their belief that the former Indian skipper would continue his formidable form in the lower order.
However, only time will tell whether Dhoni will come up to bat earlier or not. Meanwhile, Chennai currently finds itself comfortably placed in the third position of the IPL 2024 points table, having secured victories in two out of their first three matches. The Kings will be looking forward to bagging their third tournament win against SRH on April 5th.
