DY Patil Gets Major Upgrade After Chinnaswamy

DY Patil Stadium was confirmed as the new venue for Women’s World Cup matches after Bengaluru lost hosting rights.

The DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai will replace Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium as a venue for the upcoming Women’s World Cup, after the latter failed to secure police permission to host matches. The decision came in the wake of the stampede tragedy on June 4, which claimed 11 lives during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL title celebrations.

The Navi Mumbai venue will now stage up to five matches, including three league games, one semifinal and the final of the 13th edition of the tournament, scheduled to conclude on November 2.

Despite the change, the tournament dates remain unchanged — from September 30 to November 2. The other venues — ACA Stadium, Holkar Stadium, ACA-VDCA Stadium, and R Premadasa Stadium — will host games as originally planned.

Notably, DY Patil Stadium has never hosted a women’s ODI. The last women’s international played there was a T20I between India and Australia in December. “Navi Mumbai has emerged as a genuine home for women’s cricket in recent years. The support it has received during international fixtures and the Women’s Premier League has been remarkable, creating an atmosphere that elevates the players and inspires fans,” ICC president Jay Shah said in a release.

“We stand at a pivotal moment in the journey of the women’s game. This World Cup has the potential to be remembered as one of those defining milestones that shaped the sport’s future, not only in India but across the cricketing world,” Shah added.

According to the schedule, the final will be staged either in Colombo or Navi Mumbai on November 2. The first semifinal will be played in Guwahati or Colombo on October 29, while the second semifinal will take place in Navi Mumbai on October 30.

If Pakistan qualifies for the semifinals, their match will be held in Colombo, and in case they reach the final, it will also be staged there. Should India and Pakistan face each other in a semifinal, the clash will be the first knockout in Colombo. However, if Pakistan fails to qualify, all knockout matches will be held in India.
