After winning the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim mocked the former’s time-out celebration, referencing a controversial World Cup dismissal.

Following Sri Lanka’s controversial time-out celebration during their T20I series win over Bangladesh, the two sides met again in a fiery three-match ODI series in Bangladesh. The latter emerged victorious and, in a turn of tables, avenged Sri Lanka’s celebration.

The series went down to the wire, with Bangladesh clinching the deciding match in Chattogram. Much to the amusement of the Bangladesh team, Mushfiqur Rahim re-enacted Angelo Mathews’ broken strap and helmet incident from the World Cup, sparking laughter and reminding everyone of the original incident.

This act by Bangladesh stemmed from Sri Lanka’s earlier celebration during the T20I series. After securing the win, Sri Lankan players, including veteran Angelo Mathews, posed for a group photo with a time-out signal, referencing a controversial incident from last year’s ODI World Cup.

During the World Cup match, Mathews walked out to bat, only to discover a broken helmet strap. The exchange of helmets caused a delay, which Bangladesh appealed as a “time-out.” The umpires surprisingly upheld the appeal, and Mathews had to walk back. This caused a rift between the two teams and has been continuing since.

Nevertheless, the series saw Najmul Hossain Shanto emerge as the Player of the Series, with Bangladesh bagging the series decider by 4 wickets. After this fiery ODI contest, both teams will lock horns again in a two-match Test series starting March 22^nd.
