South African fast bowler Nandre Burger expressed a desire to engage in friendly sledging with Virat Kohli in the eliminator match.
South African pacer Nandre Burger expressed his desire to engage in a friendly banter with star Indian batter and RCB’s heart, Virat Kohli, on the field in the upcoming eliminator. Burger, who is currently playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), made the revelation during a conversation with his teammate Donovan Ferreira.
When asked by Ferreira about a batter he would like to sledge, Burger said he does not have a specific player in mind and enjoys the competitive aspect of the game more. Burger recalled his debut Test series against India in December last year, where he had a heated exchange with Kohli. The South African pacer troubled Kohli with short deliveries, and the two had a stare-down.
During the incident, Kohli was heard saying, “Tereko 30 runs marunga ek over mai (I will hit you for 30 runs in an over).” Burger clarified, “Many people thought Virat and I had a fight during the India series last year, but we didn’t. There was no sledging, just stare-downs. But I think it would be fun to have a little sledging match with him. I think I would enjoy it.”
Burger’s comments were met with a humorous response from Ferreira, who said, “I don’t know. Good luck.” Burger acknowledged the sarcasm and chuckled.
The Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face off in the IPL 2024 Eliminator at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday, May 22nd.
