Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain received a two-year cricket ban, with six months suspended, from the ICC after he admitted to three charges of breaching the Emirates Cricket Board’s Anti-Corruption Code.
Nasir Hossain faces a two-year ban from cricket, accepting three charges for violating the Emirates Cricket Board’s Anti-Corruption Code. The ICC, charging him in September 2023, imposed a two-year ban, suspending six months. The 32-year-old, admitting to charges including failure to disclose a gift and details of a corrupt conduct invitation, can return to international cricket on April 7, 2025, upon satisfying conditions linked to the suspended period.
The breaches involve not promptly disclosing a gift over US$ 750, specifically a new iPhone 12, and withholding details of an invitation for corrupt conduct received through the iPhone.
“Breach of Article 2.4.3 of the Code, in that he failed to disclose to the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (without unnecessary delay) the receipt of a gift that was offered to him that had a value of over US$ 750, namely the gift of a new iPhone 12. Breach of Article 2.4.4 of the Code, in that he failed to disclose full details of the approach or invitation he received to engage in Corrupt Conduct via the new iPhone 12,” read the statement by ICC.
“Breach of Article 2.4.6 of the Code, in that he failed or refused, without compelling justification, to cooperate with the Designated Anti-Corruption Official’s investigation in relation to possible Corrupt Conduct under the Code, including (without limitation) failing to provide accurately and completely any information and/or documentation requested by the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (whether as part of a formal Demand pursuant to Article 4.3 or otherwise) as part of such investigation,” the statement added.
Between 2011 and 2018, Nasir Hossain represented Bangladesh in 115 matches, accumulating 2695 runs and claiming 39 wickets across formats. Post that period, he shifted focus to the domestic scene, notably playing for Prime Bank Cricket Club in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League.
