Nasser Hussain backed India, negating critics’ claims that the Men in Blue have taken an unfair advantage throughout the tournament.
Former England captain Nasser Hussain has denied suggestions that India benefited from unfair advantages during the T20 World Cup. His strong expression of his thoughts came after India’s dominant 68-run victory over England in the semi-final secured their place in the final.
Some critics, including former England cricketers Michael Vaughan and David Lloyd, have argued that India’s path to the final was easier due to factors like playing the second semi-final and avoiding matches under lights. However, Hussain, now a renowned broadcaster, disagreed.
Hussain believes India’s performance throughout the tournament justifies their place in the final. He highlighted their adaptability to different conditions. In their previous match against Australia, India thrived on a good batting pitch in St. Lucia, scoring 205/5 and winning comfortably. In the contrasting semi-final against England, they adjusted to a slower pitch at the Providence Stadium in Guyana and emerged victorious again.
“India showcased their skill on various pitches. They deserve to be in the final. Fair play to them for adapting and winning under pressure,” Hussain wrote in his Daily Mail column.
Hussain further emphasised that India’s win over England was a result of their strong batting performance, anchored by Rohit Sharma (57) and Suryakumar Yadav (47), followed by crucial contributions from all-rounders. India’s bowling attack, led by Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, and Kuldeep Yadav, then restricted England to a modest 103 runs, sealing their place in the final.

“Their final score was just slightly higher than their total in the 2022 semi-final loss to England. But the pitches were completely different. India’s bowlers capitalised on the slower conditions in Guyana, making 171 a defendable total,” Hussain acknowledged.
With both India and South Africa remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament, the stage is set for a thrilling final clash for the T20 World Cup trophy in Barbados on Saturday, June 29th.
