Nat Sciver-Brunt has been named the new England Women’s cricket captain, replacing Heather Knight after the 2025 Ashes series.

Nat Sciver-Brunt has been appointed captain of the England Women’s cricket team, succeeding Heather Knight after the 2025 Ashes. She will lead the side across formats with head coach Charlotte Edwards. The 32-year-old all-rounder debuted in 2013 and has featured in 259 international matches. Sciver-Brunt averages 46.47 in Tests, 45.91 in ODIs, and 28.45 in T20Is, with 181 wickets to her name.

She led England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and first captained in 2021. A two-time ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year (2022, 2023), she also claimed the PCA award twice. Ranked third in ICC ODI batting rankings, she recently scored 523 runs in the 2025 WPL and became the first to cross 1,000 runs in the tournament.

Nat Sciver-Brunt Expresses Pride in New Role

Sciver-Brunt expressed her excitement and highlighted that she feels proud to take on the role and aims to lead the team to success. She also spoke about her excitement in working with Charlotte Edwards again, praising her passion for the game and commitment to the team. Notably, Sciver-Brunt has worked alongside head coach Charlotte Edwards for three seasons at Mumbai Indians.

“I’m really proud to take on the role of captain of the England Women’s team and it’s an honour to have been asked by Charlotte, someone I’ve always looked up to. Ever since I made my England debut back in 2013, all I have wanted to do is help the team in every way that I can. I will try my best to lead this team to success, whilst empowering them to be the best version of themselves. It’s hugely exciting to be working with Charlotte having had the pleasure of working with her in the last three years at Mumbai Indians,” she said.

Looking forward, England Women will begin their 2025 home season on 21 May with a series against the West Indies. The tour includes three Metro Bank ODIs and three Vitality IT20s. India then arrives for eight white-ball matches. This series will feature five Vitality IT20s and three Metro Bank ODIs.
