Veteran spinner Nathan Lyon, favoring his home team Australia and Pakistan, predicted they would reach the T20 World Cup 2024 final, overlooking India in his analysis.
Veteran Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has made bold predictions for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, foreseeing a final showdown between Australia and Pakistan. Lyon, in a recent video, expressed his bias towards Australia as his first choice for the finals. He justified his selection by emphasizing Australia’s strengths. Additionally, Lyon credited Pakistan’s spinners and highlighted star batsman Babar Azam as key factor behind his prediction for Pakistan to reach the final.
“For the T20 finals team, Australia obviously because I’m quite biased towards them. I think it will be I’m going to go with Pakistan. In those conditions, quality spin bowlers, but also electric batters like Babar Azam,” said Lyon in a video shared by Prime Video Sports Australia.
Moreover, Lyon anticipated a record-breaking high score in a T20I match during this year’s tournament. He also lauded Australian T20I skipper Mitchell Marsh, endorsing him to excel due to his batting and bowling skills.
“I think early on in the tournament we may see the highest score in T20. I’m going to go, Mitchell Marsh, I think the power that he has with the bat but also the skill he has with the ball in hand as well. So, go well Mitch,” he added.
The upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 is anticipated to be a high-scoring affair, given the short boundaries at the USA grounds. Teams boast strong hitters, hinting at a record-breaking tournament. Nepal holds the current T20I team total record at 314/3 against Mongolia.
The tournament kicks off with hosts USA facing Canada on June 1 at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas, promising an exciting start to the competition.
