Australian spinner Nathan Lyon shared his opinion on favourable conditions for spin and aggressive batting in T20 World Cup.
The T20 World Cup is just around the corner, starting on June 1st. Meanwhile, Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has picked his favourites for the final. Along with his home team, Australia, he fancied Pakistan’s chances. The reason might be that the dry pitches in the West Indies could favour skilled spinners like Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, and Shadab Khan. Plus, their star batter, Babar Azam, is known for handling spin well.
“For the T20 finals team, Australia, obviously, because I’m quite biased towards them. But I think I’m going to go with Pakistan. In those conditions, quality spin bowlers, but also electric batters like Babar Azam,” Lyon said, in a video shared by Prime Video Sport.
The recent IPL season was a big showcase for batters, with aggressive hitting dominating the bowlers. Lyon expects this trend to continue in the World Cup, even suggesting a new record for the highest score might be broken.

He also had some words of encouragement for Australia’s T20 captain, Mitchell Marsh. Lyon believes Marsh’s power hitting will be a big advantage, especially on the smaller grounds with cross-winds. He also sees Marsh contributing with his bowling variations.
“I think early on in the tournament, we may see the highest score in T20s. I’m going to go with Mitchell Marsh because of the power that he has with the bat and also because of the skill he has with the ball in hand. So, go well, Mitch,” Lyon concluded.
