Shreyas Iyer, who withdrew from the Ranji Trophy quarter-final due to back pain, has been declared fit by the National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer made headlines when he withdrew from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Baroda due to back spasms. This decision raised eyebrows, especially considering his recent exclusion from the national team after lackluster performances in the Test series against England. Many anticipated Iyer’s return to domestic cricket as a pathway back to the national squad.

However, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) intervened, asserting that Iyer was fit and not grappling with any new injuries. Nitin Patel, Head of Sports Science and Sports Medicine at the NCA, communicated to selectors that there were no fresh concerns about Iyer’s fitness following his departure from the Indian team.
“Shreyas Iyer was fit and available for selection as per the handover report of the Indian team after the 2nd Test match against England. There are currently no fresh injuries reported as well after his departure from Team India,” Patel wrote in his email according to an NDTV report.
Earlier, Following Ishan Kishan’s withdrawal from the Ranji Trophy, BCCI secretary Jay Shah had notified that all centrally contracted cricketers must participate in domestic red-ball cricket. Despite this, Kishan didn’t join his state team for the final league game, and now Iyer has declined to play in Mumbai’s quarterfinal.
