Nepal’s captain Rohit Paudel and Bangladesh’s Tanzim Hasan Sakib engaged in a heated verbal exchange during the T20 match, prompting other players and officials to intervene and separate them.

Nepal’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024 saw them face Bangladesh in a crucial Group D match at the Arnos Vale Ground in St. Vincent on Monday, June 17.

During Nepal’s run chase, an incident unfolded in the third over when Nepal captain Rohit Paudel faced Bangladesh pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib. On the final ball of the over, Rohit defended the ball towards point off Tanzim’s delivery. Tanzim, visibly agitated, stared down at Rohit and the two exchanged heated words. Tanzim was heard asking Rohit, “What happened?”

The confrontation escalated quickly as both players rushed towards each other in a furious exchange of words before being separated by teammates and match officials. Aasif Sheikh, who was at the non-striker’s end, had to intervene to diffuse the tension. The ICC later shared a video of the incident on its Instagram handle.

On the match front, opting to bowl first, Nepal made an impressive start by taking a wicket on the very first ball of the game and quickly dismantling Bangladesh’s top order, reducing them to just 106 runs within the Powerplay. Despite their strong bowling performance, Nepal ultimately fell short in their chase, losing the match by 21 runs.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh secured their spot in the Super 8 stage with this hard-fought win. They defended their total by bowling out Nepal for 85 runs in 19.2 overs.
