Before the commencement of the T20 World Cup in June, the ICC announced that the Netherlands would be hosting a T20 tri-series with Ireland and Scotland.

The Netherlands will host a T20 tri-series between Ireland, Scotland, and the host nation, serving as crucial preparation for all three teams ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup, which kicks off on June 2nd. The tournament will be held at the VRA ground in Amstelveen, with matches scheduled for every day from May 18th to 24th, excluding May 21st.

This all-European tri-series will follow a round-robin format, meaning each team will play each other twice. There will be no final match. The full schedule of the tri-series is as follows:

  1. May 18: Netherlands vs. Scotland
  2. May 19: Netherlands vs. Ireland
  3. May 20: Ireland vs. Scotland
  4. May 22: Netherlands vs. Scotland
  5. May 23: Ireland vs. Scotland
  6. May 24: Netherlands vs. Ireland

“We are excited to host this Tri-Series as part of our preparation for the T20 World Cup played in America and the West Indies in June. Twenty teams will be competing in this year’s event, which makes this World Cup a truly global event with more than a billion TV viewers worldwide. The Netherlands team will be aiming to emulate the success they had in Australia in 2022,” Roland Lefebvre, high performance director at the KNCB (Royal Dutch Cricket Association), remarked, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

For Ireland, this tri-series comes after completing a home series against Afghanistan earlier in March across all formats. They will also face Pakistan in a three-match T20I series at home, starting on May 10th, before travelling to the Netherlands.

Scotland and the Netherlands, on the other hand, recently participated in ODIs for the World Cup League 2. This tri-series will help them to fine-tune their T20 strategies before departing for the World Cup, which will be held across the West Indies and the United States.

The Netherlands and Scotland will be facing Nepal and England, respectively, on June 4th, while Ireland will face India on June 5th during the group stages of the T20 World Cup 2024.
