Nitish Kumar Reddy’s Resilience Stands Tall
Nitish Kumar Reddy scored a memorable maiden Test century on Day 3 of the Boxing Day Test, rescuing India from a challenging start.
Nitish Kumar Reddy marked a significant milestone in his debut Test series, smashing his maiden Test century on Day 3 of the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. The young cricketer’s remarkable innings not only steadied India’s innings but also helped the team avoid the follow-on.
The 21-year-old right-handed batter from Andhra Pradesh walked in to bat at No. 8 when India was under immense pressure, reeling from the dismissals of key players like Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja. Reddy, however, displayed grit and determination, forging a crucial partnership with Washington Sundar to stabilize the innings.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) star finally secured his maiden Test century after a long wait, smashing a blistering boundary off Scott Boland’s delivery in the 115th over. He reached the milestone in 171 balls, following Jasprit Bumrah’s unfortunate dismissal and a tense moment when Mohammed Siraj narrowly survived to give Reddy the strike.

Adding a feather to his cap, Reddy’s century etched his name in the record books. He became the highest run-scorer for India batting at No. 8 in Australia, a feat that underscored his potential and resilience.
With Reddy steering the ship for India, Rohit Sharma and Co. ended Day 3 in a strong position. India posted a competitive total of 358-9 at Stumps. However, a deficit of 116 runs from Australia’s first-innings total still remains to be cleared.

That’s a test century of high quality and technical skill from 21 yr old Nitish Kumar Reddy. Left the ball expertly, & attacked when needed. Another deeply moving story of parental sacrifice in Indian cricket.
