Rathi and Nitish Rana penalised
Both Digvesh and Nitish Rana were fined after an ugly on-field altercation during the DPL 2025 Eliminator.
The organisers of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 handed out fines to South Delhi Superstarz spinner Digvesh Rathi and West Delhi Lions captain Nitish Rana following their heated altercation during the Eliminator at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday.
Rathi was fined 80 per cent of his match fees for breaching the code of conduct under Article 2.2, which deals with “conduct contrary to the spirit of the game.” On the other hand, Rana was fined 50 per cent of his match fees for a code of conduct violation under Article 2.6 (Level 1), which relates to “using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during a match.”

The incident unfolded after Rathi pulled away just before delivering the ball earlier in the over. Rana responded by doing the same on the next delivery. Tempers flared when Rathi was hit for a six, after which he allegedly used unsavoury words. Things escalated quickly as the two players almost came to blows, with Rathi seen hurling abuse while Rana engaged in finger-pointing. Match officials and players had to intervene to separate the two.
Despite the ugly scenes, Rana had the last laugh. The West Delhi skipper played a stunning unbeaten knock of 134 runs off just 55 balls, guiding his side to a successful chase of 202 and securing a place in Qualifier 2, where they will face East Delhi Riders.
