The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the nominees for the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards for September 2023.
On October 10th, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the newest batch of global cricket talents nominated for the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month honors. This recognition comes after a thrilling month of cricket in September.
The promising young batter Shubman Gill and the fiery pace bowler Mohammed Siraj represent India in the men’s Player of the Month shortlist. Dawid Malan, an English opener, is the sole non-Indian cricketer among the three nominees.
On the women’s front, the shortlist includes Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu, alongside South Africa’s dynamic duo, Nadine de Klerk and Laura Wolvaardt, making it a competitive field for the recognition.
In late September, Mohammed Siraj ascended to the top spot in the ICC Men’s ODI bowler rankings, earning this distinction through his sensational performance in the 2023 Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka. In a remarkable display of bowling, Siraj snatched five wickets in just 16 deliveries.
Shubman Gill, on the other hand, is aiming for his second Player of the Month honor, capitalizing on his stellar form from the Asia Cup, which transitioned into the subsequent ODI series against Australia. England’s Dawid Malan secured his nomination following a standout performance in the limited-overs series versus New Zealand.
Chamari Athapaththu earns her second Player of the Month nomination for her exceptional batting and bowling performances that were instrumental in securing Sri Lanka’s historic series win in England.
All-rounder Nadine de Klerk made significant contributions with both the bat and ball, playing a vital role in South Africa’s successful ODI campaigns against Pakistan and New Zealand. Her teammate Laura Wolvaardt, displayed her batting brilliance by consistently scoring runs in both T20I and ODI formats against the same opponents.
The winners will be determined through a combined voting process involving an impartial ICC Voting Academy and cricket enthusiasts from across the globe, with the announcement scheduled for next week.
