Sri Lanka has been dealt another blow ahead of the T20I series against India, with pacer Nuwan Thushara ruled out due to a broken finger. The injury occurred during fielding practice on Wednesday, just days before the series opener.
Thushara has been a key component of Sri Lanka’s bowling attack in recent times. His impressive performance at the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he claimed eight wickets in three matches, highlighted his growing stature in the team. The 27-year-old has a total of 19 wickets from 11 T20I matches. Left-arm seamer Dilshan Madushanka has been called up as Thushara’s replacement.
This is the second major setback for the Sri Lankan pace attack. Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Dushmantha Chameera would miss both the T20I and ODI series due to bronchitis and a respiratory infection. Fast bowler Asitha Fernando has been named as Chameera’s replacement.

The series of injuries has significantly weakened Sri Lanka’s bowling lineup, which will be put to the test against a strong Indian batting unit. The three-match T20I series between India and Sri Lanka is set to commence on July 27.
