Ollie Robinson, who dismissed Virat Kohli thrice in England, is eager to challenge the former Indian captain’s “ego” once again as they prepare to face off in the upcoming IND vs ENG Test series.
As the much-anticipated five-match Test series between India and England looms on the horizon, English pacer Ollie Robinson reflected on his previous success against Virat Kohli, having dismissed the former Indian captain thrice in England. Robinson, who boasts an impressive record of 21 wickets in four matches against India, including two five-wicket hauls, acknowledged the challenge of replicating his performance on spin-friendly Indian tracks.
Expressing eagerness for the battle, the pacer sees the opportunity to test Kohli’s “ego” in India, where Kohli will be keen on dominating and scoring runs. The series will be Robinson’s first tour of India.
“You always want to play against the best players, don’t you? And you always want to get the best players out. Kohli is one of those. He’s got a big ego and I think playing on that, especially in India, where he is going to want to dominate and score runs, playing on the fact we’ve had battles in the past, is exciting,” Robinson told ESPNCricinfo.
“If I can have a big tour in India, then it should set me up for a while. If I do well, I can cement myself back in the team,” he added.
The upcoming five-match Test series, starting on January 25th, holds significant importance for India in the World Test Championship, facing a formidable challenge from England’s “Bazball” approach. Currently ranked 6th in Test cricket, Kohli’s performance is crucial for India in the series.
