Ahead of the second Test in Visakhapatnam, India has released pacer Mohammed Siraj from the squad, with Avesh Khan re-joining the team, as confirmed by the BCCI.
Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj has been rested for the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam, beginning on February 2. The BCCI update confirmed his release from the squad, citing workload and series duration considerations.
Avesh Khan, previously released to play in the Ranji Trophy, makes a return to the squad for the second Test.
“Mr Mohd. Siraj has been released from the India squad for the second Test against England in Vizag. The decision was taken keeping in mind the duration of the series and the amount of cricket he has played in recent times. He will be available for selection for the third Test in Rajkot. Avesh Khan has re-joined the team for the 2nd Test,” the BCCI official statement read.
During the toss, Skipper Rohit Sharma also reasoned with workload management as the reason for Siraj’s rest.

Mukesh Kumar stepped in for Mohammed Siraj as India adhered to the five-bowler strategy for the second Test. With KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja sidelined due to injuries, Rajat Patidar (Test debut) and Kuldeep Yadav replaced them.
England, after their previous victory, brought in debutant off-spinner Shoaib Bashir for the injured Jack Leach, while James Anderson took Mark Wood’s place.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, Rohit Sharma expressed confidence in the decision on a favorable batting wicket. Following a 28-run defeat in the first Test, the hosts aim for a substantial first-innings score in Visakhapatnam.
