Misbah-ul-Haq, despite Pakistan’s recent struggles, believes they are among the contenders to win the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq believes his home nation has a chance to win the upcoming T20 World Cup, despite recent struggles. Misbah was part of Pakistan’s 2009 T20 World Cup victory under Younis Khan and stepped down as coach in 2021, just before another World Cup.
The country enters the tournament on a two-game losing streak to England in a recent series. They will need to address batting order issues, particularly a lack of production from the middle order, to compete with the tournament’s favourites.
While acknowledging Australia as the frontrunners, Misbah admitted some bias towards the ‘Men in Green’. “The safest bet I think would be Australia. They know how to win. Whatever may be the condition. They come to Asia and win by playing with just one spinner. You can’t write off Australia from any World Cup. The second team is very difficult. Humein Pakistan mein rehna hai, toh Pakistan ko back karna hoga. India ka team badi strong hai, sara kuch hai (I want to stay in the country, so I have to back my nation. India’s team is quite strong, they have everything),” Misbah ul Haq said in an interaction on Star Sports.
