Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah commended Virat Kohli for his humility, citing instances of Kohli’s down-to-earth demeanor such as cracking Punjabi jokes with Shadab.
During the Asia Cup 2023, an unexpected sight captured the attention of cricket fans worldwide as Virat Kohli engaged in lighthearted chat with Pakistan players despite the intense rivalry between the two nations on the field. Amidst a rain-forced break, Kohli shared moments of camaraderie with Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan, showcasing the friendly relationship between players from both sides.
However, Pakistan faced setbacks as fast bowler Naseem Shah suffered a shoulder injury midway through the tournament, requiring surgery and sidelining him for over five months, forcing him to miss the remainder of the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup held in India.
Shah recently made a comeback in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), representing Islamabad United, where he praised Kohli’s humble demeanor in an interview with Samaa TV, highlighting the Indian captain’s grounded nature off the field despite his superstar status.
“Virat Kohli cracks jokes in Punjabi with Shadab. He’s very humble. He always greets us before a match which is very nice. He has no air about him being a sports star. Obviously, when playing, he’s very focused but off the field, he’s very normal,” Shah said.
In the recent India-Pakistan matches, India has dominated, winning 7 out of 10 ODIs and 9 out of 12 T20Is. Reflecting on the same, Shah acknowledged Pakistan’s victories, including in the T20 World Cup 2022, but admitted India’s strength.
Regarding facing pressure against India, the young Pakistani cricketer believes any team can falter under tough circumstances. When asked about the toughest batter to bowl to, Shah singled out Kane Williamson in Test cricket, emphasizing the need for consistency and precision against him.
