Tri-series returns to Rawalpindi and Lahore With Pakistan Hosting
Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka were confirmed for a tri-series in November as preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
The tri-series format is making a strong comeback in international cricket. On the same day as the UAE tri-series final between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed another three-nation event scheduled for November in Pakistan.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will host Afghanistan and Sri Lanka for the series from November 17 to 29. Matches will be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. The format will mirror the UAE tri-series, with each team playing the other twice in the six-match group stage, followed by the final on November 29 in Lahore.

Rawalpindi will stage the first two fixtures, with Afghanistan taking on Pakistan and Sri Lanka in back-to-back games. “This is an encouraging development, as the Afghanistan National Team continues to compete against the top teams regularly,” ACB Chief Executive Officer Naseeb Khan said. “These matches are being held to serve as ideal preparations for next year’s T20 World Cup for all three participating teams. I am hopeful that Afghanistan will perform well in these games, and I trust our fans will find this series as a great source of joy.”
The announcement adds to Afghanistan’s already packed cricket calendar. After an impressive run in the UAE tri-series, they will shift focus to the 2025 Asia Cup, starting September 9 in the UAE under the BCCI’s hosting rights.
In October, Afghanistan are set to host Bangladesh for three ODIs and three T20Is. During the Asia Cup, they will face Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in their group, apart from their upcoming bilateral assignments.
