Ahead of the highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan ODI World Cup 2023 match on October 14 in Ahmedabad, Pakistani pacer Shaheen Afridi pledged to take selfies with media and fans but with a twist – only after he claims five wickets against India.
As the Pakistan team prepared in Ahmedabad, they engaged in rigorous fielding drills, with Shaheen actively participating. After his practice sessions, as he made his way toward the boundary, fans and reporters approached him for selfies. Shaheen, with a smile, responded, “Zaroor selfie loonga, but five wicket lene ke baad (I will definitely take a selfie, but only after I’ve claimed five wickets),” as quoted by RevSportz.
Pakistan, fresh off a remarkable 345-run chase against Sri Lanka and a comfortable win over the Netherlands, was spotted in their practice session with high spirits.
Ten players, featuring stars like Babar Azam, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, Abdullah Shafique, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Hasan Ali, paired up for fielding exercises under coach Aftab Khan’s guidance. A small stump was used as a target for accuracy, and the intensity grew with each drill.
The training’s highlight was the extensive bowling practice led by coach Morne Morkel. He worked with spinners like Shadab Khan, Mohammed Nawaz, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Agha Salman, focusing on refining specific lengths. Morkel closely observed their performance with two mats at 4 and 6 meters and a red marker in between, aiming to challenge the in-form Indian batters effectively.
