Delhi Capitals owner Parth Jindal cited full-time availability as the primary reason for parting ways with head coach Ricky Ponting.
Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has clarified the reasons behind the franchise’s decision to part ways with long-time head coach Ricky Ponting. The move, which came as a surprise to many, was not solely due to the team’s inability to win an IPL title, Jindal explained. Instead, the primary factor was the need for a coach who could be fully committed to the team and available in India year-round.
“The coaching setup that one needs to have has to be full-time. They have to be available in the country or in the city at any given point in time. That is the sole reason why we have made this change,” Jindal stated when asked the reason for parting ways with Ricky Ponting, as quoted by CNBC-TV18.
Despite the coaching change, Jindal expressed confidence in the team’s core group of Indian players, including Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mukesh Kumar.
“There is going to be a meet where we actually give our views to the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) on the retention and release rules for the mega-auction. We have a great core of players at the Delhi Capitals. If you look at the likes of Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Tristan Stubbs, Mukesh Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed, there is a very good core that we have,” Jindal added.
Notably, the Delhi Capitals also thanked Ponting for his seven years of service and wished him well in his future endeavours, as they posted a heartfelt message for the Australian legend on their social media handle and remembered his unforgettable speeches in the dressing room.
