Pat Cummins picked an all-retired combined India-Australia ODI XI ahead of the 2025 white-ball series in Perth.
Australia’s Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the upcoming white-ball series against India due to injury concerns. The 32-year-old pacer from New South Wales last featured in competitive cricket during the West Indies tour in July 2025. Reports suggest that he is also likely to miss the opening Test of the 2025-26 Ashes series against England in Perth.
Ahead of the first ODI between India and Australia at Optus Stadium, Perth, on Sunday (October 19), Cummins joined Star Sports for a special segment where he revealed his all-time India-Australia combined ODI XI. Interestingly, he picked only retired players, with eight Australians and three Indians making the cut.
Cummins paired Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar with Australian opener David Warner at the top of the order. The duo was followed by Ricky Ponting, Steve Smith, Shane Watson, and Michael Bevan in the middle order.

Smith, who won two ODI World Cups with Australia in 2015 and 2023, announced his retirement from the 50-over format in March 2025 after the team failed to reach the ICC Champions Trophy final.
In his team, Cummins selected Mahendra Singh Dhoni as wicketkeeper and named Shane Warne as a specialist spinner. The pace attack included Brett Lee, Zaheer Khan, and Glenn McGrath, rounding off a star-studded lineup.
